4 Main periods in Web Design

05/07/2018

Web designers are expected to satisfy the necessary requirements for the layout and functionality of the website. If their role implies writing the code, they need to be in line with the current standards in the field of web development.

Elements that web design areas include are web and graphic design, user interface design, authoring, including standardized code and SEO optimization for web browsers. Here are some of them:

  • Markup languages (such as HTML, XHTML, and XML)
  • stylesheet (such as XSL and CSS)
  • client-side scripting (such as JavaScript and VBScript)post5a
  • server-side scripting (like ASP and PHP)
  • databases – technologies (such as MySQL, MSSQL)
  • multimedia technologies (such as Flash and Silverlight)
  • web strategy and marketing
  • SEO optimization
  • and much more …

Web design history can be conventionally divided into four main periods (generations), by its development and design complexity.

The first period

It began with the development of the first free browser “Mozaik” and it came to an end when HTML became widespread. Website design at this stage was under the influence of many technological constraints, like slow connections of modem and inability for fast data transfers.

 Second period

Here, web design looked much more professional than in the first period. It had features that were new, icons replaced word keys, and a menu containing information was more structured and organized in a hierarchy. There was a need to adjust the site design for certain screen resolutions.

Web designers began to pay attention to significant factors such as the speed of downloading information and the resolution of the monitor.post5b However, the text was not easy to read due to the characteristics of the browser and the speed of the Internet, and users were not interested to wait a few minutes in order for the content to finally appear.

The third generation of web design sites

As the main goal, it had the delivery of multimedia content, including sound, animation, 3D models. This phase is associated with the introduction of Flash technology that has become very popular. Web designers use multimedia content in order to attract customers and visitors according to the goal of a particular site. Therefore, the structure of the site and its navigation system are considered extremely important for the design of the site, in order to allow users to quickly find what they are looking for.

The basic principle in the third phase was Aida’s strategy, that is to attract new visitors: to keep visitors on the site for as long as possible, to wake up the desire to learn more about the location or company, to motivate the visitors to contact you.

 The fourth generation

This period has specificities such as an abundance of multimedia content and the ability to order over the Internet. Today, sites are specially developed for e-commerce (online sales platforms), government, education, entertainment, business, etc. with the basic aim of fulfilling the client’s request.

History of Web Design from 1988 to 2012

04/28/2018

Opportunities on the Internet and in web design are virtually endless. Web design is the art of presenting content to end users on the World Wide Web. In the digital world, websites appear as an important tool that not only helps companies find their target group but also to attract new customers from around the world. The website has become a means of communication and interaction for business houses. You can establish your corporate identity on a global scale and stay in day-to-day contact with your client.

Although web design has a fairly recent history, it can be easily linked to other areas, such as for example, graphic design. The web design area also represents the current technological point of view. It has a great deal of participation in the everyday lives of people. post4aIt’s hard to imagine an internet without animated images, different typography styles, colorful background images or music.

 How it began

The year was 1960. The internet was firstly used for US military needs that were various. After that, the universities began to use it too. Right about that time internet involved in a very specific and new tool that was used for the exchange of data between two or more computers, all with a great help of TCP/IP (portable control protocols). Nine years later, ARPANET and GML which means General Markup Language, came into existence. And three years after that, Tomlinson Ray changed significance of it all by creating an email.

A very important year regarding Internet was 1980. That year the US National Standards Institute finally announced their draft on GML (SGML). The latest scientist of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Tim Berners-Li, created the HTML language (Hypertext Markup Language), which is still available today and you can not imagine the existence of the Internet without it. From 1989 to 1990, Tim Berners-Li proposed a set of protocols and software (the first web browser – from the word browser, called the World Wide Web), which enabled computers to display information. Also, this moment is the beginning of HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol daemon).

post4bConstant progress

Web Design was at the beginning, just a bit advanced. Bu over time and a quite fast HTML become more flexible and complex, so much that it allowed its users to add tables, images, and web pages.

With the advent of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and web server technologies with exceptional customization and responsiveness to basic requirements, web design experienced rapid development. The very first browser was Mozaik in 1993, and it finally let its users surf in visual terms. It also enabled technology to the public. the creator of Mozaic is the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). This browser has the power to enable users to see graphics and text, but it was in a limited arrangement and schedule that has influenced the ability to provide information. Graphic design and visual communication were very limited back then.

Learn 4 tricks for beginners in graphic design

04/20/2018

Maybe you wish to finally become a graphic designer, or you have a need for improving your visual communication. Either way, this magical tips will be very inspiring to you.

Paste the contrasting fonts

Which fonts do look good next to each other, and which ones you should never mix together? Connecting fonts is one of the most common problems that beginners in the graphic design are facing. The simple solution is to choose high-contrast fonts. post3aThus, the fonts will balance each other, and in doing so, they will for sure play an important role in your design.

The contrast between the two types of typography can be controlled by increasing and decreasing letters in the title relative to the rest of the text, or by using bright colors that will complement the background image.

Align the colors in your design

Creating color harmony is one of the most effective ways to highlight your design. First of all, it is necessary to reconcile the colors you use for graphic elements (such as fonts or text media) with a background image.

Find the color from the image using the search tool and color identifier, which will immediately show you the value (hex-code) of the color – that is, the six characters on the basis of which the correct color is identified in the color circle. Hex codes are an important and compulsory lesson for beginners in graphic design. They are something you will use to create all the color palettes in your design.

Use “grid” for your images

Grids are like an invisible glue that maintains the design. post3bIf you are doing anything for print or for digital media, you need to know this technique. The most prominent purpose of this is to establish guidelines for placing elements in the plan, that is, in the model. A good network not only gives rhythm to your design, but it also defines dimensions. This makes the content more accessible and helps viewers to find the next piece of information in the design.

The network sets expectations and defines rules, colors and – in some cases – the “tone” of design itself. That’s why it’s always good to create a network, or grid, with which you can easily make a break for all resolutions. With it, you will easily show the client what their site will look like on big resolutions, tablets, and mobile phones. When you create a good grid, you will be able to use it for most of the projects you work on.

Add transparent icons

When you begin to learn how to create wallpapers using various software and tools, the most exciting and beautiful part of your work will begin. This is where your creativity has the most space. Whether you use a picture as a background, a series of colored shapes, or irregular shapes – there are countless ways – relax and experiment. If you have full-color images, consider using transparent icons.

What is Website Hosting and How to Choose the Right One?

04/11/2018

To have your website, you need two things: a domain name and then a place where you will store all the files that make up your site. Hosting is exactly that. The website consists of a large number of different files and they should all be stored in a safe place that is always online and accessible to anyone who wants to access it at any time. This is a place where you can rent your space for all files on your website. Your domain name (domain) connects you to your hosting account and displays a website that is stored on your web hosting account.

Since the whole website is stored on a web hosting account, it needs to be reliable, fast and to support all the services that are required for your website to function normally. Also, you need out of hosting that offers enough flow (in other words, the number of visits to your site that you are allowed in the flow) and disk space (the amount of space required to store all the files on your website). post2aThere is also a bunch of other terms related to web hosting that we listed at the bottom of this article, for those who are interested in it.

Choosing the Right Hosting

There are literally thousands of different hosting companies around the world to set up your website, and they all offer different packages of space, flows, and prices, many of which are overvalued or do not offer enough for the amount of your money invested. There are three main types of hosting offered by hosting companies: Shared Servers, Virtual Servers, and Dedicated Servers.

If your site is on a Shared server, it will share server resources with other websites on the same server. This is often the most cost-effective option, but it can also lead to poor performance due to great exploitation by other sites with which you share the server space. This is one of the servers that is not recommended if you have an e-commerce website.

Virtual servers are virtual dedicated servers and provide much greater stability and vast resources. post2bThey are recommended for a small business based on e-stores and have a decent number of visitors on a monthly basis.

Dedicated servers are basically full physical servers that are assigned to your site only. These servers are mainly used for corporate sites and small businesses that have a lot of work with a high number of high-traffic visits. These servers are the most expensive and at the same time the most reliable type of hosting with the best response to the use of large space and traffic. We will also note that with each hosting account you have, there is a certain number of POP3 accounts with which you can create different email accounts. So, if you have a hosting account with 5 permitted POP3 accounts, you can make a maximum of 5 different email accounts.

Tips and tricks you shouldn’t work without

04/01/2018

Every professional always tries to learn more and advance himself in his field of interest. Graphic designers are no different from other professionals. But graphic design is a complicated field to strive to be excellent in, because of all the innovations and changes that are always happening. It is easy to lose focus and to forget what are the basis of every excellent work. Which is why we bring you some advice you may be looking for.

It doesn’t matter if you are a client, a great firm that is looking for its perfect design match or a professional designer. As a client, you should know the basics so you can determine if the work that was done for you or your firm is good enough. Same goes for people in this field.post1a With these tips, we will help you get closer to your goal, so be ready because here are four tips you shouldn’t miss:

Illustrate information with shapes and icons

You would be surprised at how everything can be achieved with the help of shapes and icons. From creating informative info charts to unique text carriers, using form is another important lesson that will help you to think beyond the scope of the data and make the original design. If you need to present some figures in percentages, consider illustrating with the circles that represent these percentages. Introduce people icons and a variety of other forms to help you display more complicated and seemingly boring statistics more easily and clearly.

Solve the problem of color in photos

An important part of the graphic design process is to edit images so that they look as good as possible. One way to do this is to increase or decrease the saturation of the image. Saturation refers to the color intensity in the image. When the colors are fully saturated – they look vibrant and bright. post1bBy increasing the saturation of the color, it will look richer, and by reducing saturation, you will find that the colors look flushed and slightly foggy.

Select images in which there are places for text messages

This space refers to the blank areas in the image, which are mainly used for the title, brand name or slogan. When looking for a background image, look for those that have enough space that can be covered by the text without compromising the image impression.

Choose consistent elements

When it comes to using and matching colors, fonts, logos, and images, consistency is one of the important things that graphic designers have to master. Only when all the elements are consistent and consistently implemented in every design it is possible to build a visually recognizable brand style. And this is an important element of brand communication with consumers. If you are creative and want to turn your creativity and talent into a profitable profession, then you are on a right track of becoming a great graphic designer.
